In the Pāli Canon, who talks with the Buddha? The vast majority of named laypeople who have conversations with the Buddha are upper caste and wealthy: brahmins and aristocrats. So where do we find working class devotees? In the record of the monastics: the Theragāthā and Therīgāthā. This evening I’ll introduce a few of these inspiring practitioners, and we’ll think together about how class and privilege influence our own relationships with the Buddha’s teachings.
The evening includes a meditation, followed by a Dharma talk and discussion.
