Book Club
Come together in Saṅgha to read the discourses of the Buddha as collected in the Pāli Canon.
Each month we look at a new discourse, or sutta, with additional resources brought in as needed. Classes include a short meditation, a talk on the sutta, and group discussion. All previous sessions are recorded and available to Saṅgha members, who are welcome to join anytime.

Currently reading: Dīgha Nikāya, the Long Discourses of the Buddha
In the Dīgha Nikāya, the Buddha talks with seekers, kings, ascetics, Brahmins, and gods, describing the path to liberation using endlessly diverse skillful means. We will plan to read the entire collection, roughly in order of difficulty, beginning with several gorgeous, simpler discourses.
We’ll meet monthly, exploring together the Dhamma the chants call “well-expounded, apparent here and now, timeless, encouraging investigation, leading inwards, to be experienced individually by the wise.”
All are welcome, but these texts become difficult quickly, so some experience in meditation and Buddhist teachings will be helpful. Participants will be encouraged to have an active practice of the Refuges and Precepts throughout the run of the course.
** NOTE for current participants: we’ve changed from the Dīgha Nikāya series being a stand-alone course to it being included as part of Saṅgha Access. We’ve sent you an email with information on how to make a new account, but please reach out if you need any support in continuing to have access to the course.
