Book Club
Come together in Saṅgha to read the discourses of the Buddha as collected in the Pāli Canon.
Each month we look at a new discourse, or sutta, with additional resources brought in as needed. Classes include a short meditation, a talk on the sutta, and group discussion. All previous sessions are recorded and available to Saṅgha members, who are welcome to join anytime.
Schedule
Monthly Fridays 8:30-10:00am (Pacific), Online

The Book Club is one of our core practice gatherings.

Currently reading: The Verses of the Elder Nuns (Thetīgathā)
The new Book Club series will focus on the verses and stories of the Elder Nuns, the Therīgathā, using Susan Murcott's beautiful book First Buddhist Women alongside the Sutta Central translations. Murcott is a wonderful feminist scholar and translator, and we'll read her stories and commentary alongside the verses themselves, and some relevant other discourses about the first bhikkhunīs.
The book club is included in Saṅgha membership and it's a lovely, smaller gathering. The reading is usually light, and no worries if you don't get to it. We do a short meditation, I talk through a text, and we have time for discussion and sharing. All Saṅgha members are welcome at the book club, and dropping in is fine.
